Steven E. Williams has been an adjunct faculty member at several universities in Southern California and Missouri S&T, where he has taught courses is industrial and organizational psychology (I/O psychology), human resource management, and statistics. In addition, Dr. Williams has spent about twenty years as a management consultant and practitioner specializing in compensation, employee selection, and applied statistical methods. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and HR management from San Diego State University (SDSU). He also has a master’s degree from SDSU and a PhD in I/O psychology from Alliant International University in San Diego. Dr. Williams is the first author (along with Jon Werner and Robert Heneman) of Merit Pay: A strategic approach of linking pay to performance published by Emerald Press, due out in Winter/Spring 2026. He is passionate about compensation, particularly merit pay, and loves to share his passion with present and future compensation practitioners, scholars, and consultants (Although, let it be known Steve will discuss this wonderful profession with any willing person!)
